Traveling 2400 miles back in the old days must have been a harrowing experience. But that's what it was when Route 66 was opened in 1926. In the 30's when people flocked out west to escape the effects of the dust bowl, mechanics used to have to make repairs the old fashioned way. Out of bare metal and ingenuity.
