It's a fairly well known and accepted fact that those on the left like to raise taxes, while those on the right want to lower them. It's a struggle that has been going on throughout out my lifetime. Now the president has submitted his budget and no surprise that being on the left of things, he wants more taxes.
Now what I'd like to know is how much is enough? It's a simple question, but one I've never heard an argument on. Many years ago when Dennis Healey was the Chancellor of the Exchequer in the UK we had a top rate of 99%. Naturally it didn't generate any extra revenues. So how much is enough? How much should the government be able to take from the wage packets of those still lucky enough to have a job?
